SunRail is Central Florida’s regional commuter rail system, providing reliable and convenient transit service between Volusia County and Osceola County via Orlando. Operating along existing rail corridors, the system serves major residential areas and employment centers throughout the region. Each station is uniquely designed to reflect the character of its surrounding community and includes amenities such as bicycle racks and passenger features that encourage commuter use. SunRail carries approximately 1.3 million passengers annually, with ridership continuing to grow, and began revenue service on May 1, 2014.

Simes & Rosch, working in association with TranSystems, provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, communications, and fire protection design services for the Operations Control Center (OCC) Building, Service and Inspection (S&I) Building, Vehicle Storage and Maintenance Facility (VSMF) Yard, and station platforms in Orlando, Florida.

The approximately 16,000‑square‑foot Operations Control Center includes general office and conditioned operational spaces. Design services encompassed lighting, normal and emergency power, communications, HVAC, plumbing, and compressed air for support areas. Infrastructure—including power distribution, raceways, and grounding—was provided for IT and command‑and‑control systems designed by others, with cabling incorporated where owner‑furnished requirements were provided.

The approximately 7,400‑square‑foot Service and Inspection Building supports routine rail car inspection and preventive maintenance operations. Simes & Rosch designed lighting, power, communications, ventilation, compressed air, and centralized lubrication systems.

Fire protection services included permit‑ready design for fire alarm and mass notification systems, automatic fire sprinkler systems, underground fire mains, and hydrants serving the OCC, S&I Building, and VSMF Yard. Clean‑agent fire suppression systems were designed for mission‑critical areas, including the Operations Center, Server Room, and Equipment Room.
